What's the problem? KS1

This book directly addresses the problem-solving strand of the Numeracy Strategy and is specifically designed to develop and enhance the word problem skills of Key Stage 1 children.

This photocopiable book contains 30 lessons closely linked to the planning objectives for Years 1 and 2, designed to make children think about the word problems that are set in front of them. Each problem is set within a real- life context with lessons focusing on either Number, Time, Money or Measure. There are also specific Assess and Review lessons to tie in with the NNS, alongside informal assessment points, provided to aid with marking and following progress.

The problems are designed to work flexibly in class - suitable for individuals, pairs or groups - and are fully photocopiable. The structure of lessons is provided, with ideas for accompanying Mental/ Oral work, Plenary sessions and ideas for follow-up work and homework. Ideas for differentiation and extension are also suggested in the teacher's notes.
